内容简介：

Inspired by the great commitment and repertoire of mockingbirds as well as the creativity and other skills possessed by bowerbirds, this lecture will make use of some film/video clips of nature programmes and speeches by Barack Obama and some winners of the 21st Century National English Speaking Competition in recent years. It will focus on some key aspects of public speaking such as creativity, delivery skills, risk-taking and humour in relation to critical thinking. An outline for the presentation is as follows: 1) Mockingbirds: Commitment and Repertoire; 2) Bowerbirds: Creativity, Structure and Ornament; 3) Barack Obama: Knowledge, Skills and Critical Thinking; 4) Taking Risks: Chen Xing’s Impromptu Speech (2007 “Lenovo Cup” in HK); 5) Humour and Critical Thinking: Wu Xiangchen’s Prepared Speech and the Q&A Session (2006 “Macao Star Cup” in Macao).

主讲人简介:

毛思慧教授，广州外国语学院英语语言文学学士、英美文学硕士、英国大学英语系当代文学文化研究硕士、香港大学比较文学（电影文化）研究博士。现任中国中美比较文化研究会副会长, 澳门理工学院贝尔英语中心教授兼中心主任, 澳门翻译联合会理事长、 广东外语外贸大学英语语言与文化专业博士研究生导师, 香港大学文学院荣誉教授, 新疆师大、海南大学、北京语言文化大学、重慶大学荣誉教授。先后在广外大和香港岭南大学主讲《英美现当代戏剧》、《当代西方文论》、《比较文化研究》、《电影文化》、《文化与翻译》、《传媒翻译》等课程。

主要学术出版物包括英国电影文化专著 《当代英国电影中男性主体的切割与重建1957 – 1987》（外研社，1999 ), 《新视角: 当代文学文化研究》(华南理工大学出版社，2000), 《解析当代英国：文学与文化研究》（北京大学出版社， 2003), 主编《当代文化研究新论丛》（6本，中山大学出版社，2007-2009），《文学、文化与后现代蜕变：从莎士比亚到007的八个案例研究》（中山大学出版社，2009)。 在英国Longman、香港大学、MULTILINGUAL MATTERS 等出版社、《今日英国学》、《中国比较文学》、 《中西文化研究》、《电影艺术》、《外国文学研究》、《翻译家》 等学术期刊发表中、英学术论文60余篇。
