讲座地点:上海外国语大学虹口校区英伦厅
讲座内容:
In this lecture, Professor Leonard Neidorf presents an overview of his research on Beowulf, the most widely studied work of English literature from the early medieval period. Beowulf is now regarded as the first great work of English literature, but it was unknown to the modern world until 1815, and its fortunes with the reading public and the academic community have varied since then. The story of how Beowulf came to occupy the canonical position it now possesses in both popular and academic culture provides a backdrop here for Professor Neidorf’s studies on the origins and interpretation of Beowulf. Neidorf explains how he and other scholars combine methods from disciplines such as philology, comparative literature, and digital humanities to shed new light on this marvelous and mysterious poem.
