讲座简介
A proficiency in academic writing is one of the most important skills which university students (especially those in the Humanities) are required to develop in the course of their degree programmes. It is not sufficient to accumulate relevant knowledge in the field and to develop the necessary reading and analytical skills; students also have to be able to translate their own arguments, interpretations, and research findings into well-structured and convincing texts, be they short essays or longer dissertations. Conceptualising academic writing as a form of communication, this lecture will briefly introduce the two main structures in academic writing (IMRaD and IBC), before providing students with some basic guidelines to write focused and cohesive texts. The goal is to provide students with some additional tools to plan, organize, and tackle their academic writing.
